A Brief Update...

It has been about five months since we moved into our house, so I thought I'd give an update on how everything is going.

We moved in on August 3rd, and because the holidays were soon to follow we decided not to worry about decorating the house with 'everyday decorations.' Instead, we waited a few weeks and then put out all of the fall decor, and after Thanksgiving we swapped it out for the Christmas stuff. Now that it is January 5 though, and all our holiday decorations have been packed away, we are back to blank walls with nothing but beige paint on them.

What to do...what to do...

Honestly I don't want to rush into decorating this house. Our old house was completely painted and decorated within just a few months of us living there, and then I got bored and began regretting some of the choices that I had made. This house is too much of an investment for me to rush into buying things and painting walls, even though I do realize I need to get the ball rolling.

So, what room is first? I don't think I can handle taking on the family room/dining area/kitchen - because that is just too large of a space for me to start with. The half bath is 'fine' just the way it is for now...although considering all I plan on doing is a couple coats of paint, it may end up being the easiest. Then of course there is the front 'flex' room, that is small, but has super high ceilings, so we may not be able to paint it on our own. The foyer is another space that won't be painted by us, because neither of us are going to climb scaffolding. We won't be painting the two spare bedrooms any time soon because there is just no point. Although I do plan on painting our next nursery (which is literally years away) when we find out the gender of the baby. Brooklyn's room is a strong contender, because it is a simple rectangular shape that would look adorable in a cozy pink. Our bedroom is gigantic - which I am not complaining about, BUT...it would be a pain in the arse to paint since it also has high ceilings (10 feet). Then there is our master bath, which is also a strong condender to be the first room to get painted, but again...what color?!

If you can't tell, I am beginning to feel the need to paint. Mostly because I am a firm believer that paint makes a world of a difference when it comes to making a house a home. After looking at several model homes when building I have an idea of what color scheme i'd like to go with, but I am a bit hesitant to do anything dramatic. The main area of our house that is the family room, dining area and kitchen, all have a current theme of taupe, with chocolate brown and burnt orange as accent colors. I really like the colors that we've chosen and would definitely consider doing an accent wall in the burnt orange/pumpkin kind of color, but then the question becomes "what wall?"

As for the remainder of the main floor, which is the hallway, half bathroom, front flex room, and foyer, I'm wanting to stick with the same taupe, chocolate brown and orange, but it will have to be in a bit different way than I have the main area. Perhaps I will paint all four walls of the half bath in the orange, or maybe we'll buy an orange chair for the front room, something along those lines - but for this exact reason of uncertainty, I am not rushing into doing anything.

I am beginning to get the itch to paint Brooklyn's room, even though I initially thought i'd wait for her to be a few years older so she could pick the color. After thinking about it though, I could paint it now, and then when she's 7 or 8 and wants to pick a color, it would be time to re-paint anyway.
