As if things couldn't get worse!

Last night was great, Brooklyn went to bed at 7:30, Scott and I were able to watch TV with the family in peace, and I enjoyed a nice glass of wine without the baby monitor going crazy. We then went to bed at 10pm and since we moved a fan into our room we actually were comfortable falling asleep.

Fast forward to about 2am, when all of a sudden massive thunder and lightening bolts woke both Scott and I up. We both did our best to fall back asleep, but even so we only managed to sleep lightly. Very lightly. At 3am we heard footsteps above us in the kitchen - and within minutes heard someone coming down the stairs. Scott decided that he's see who it was prior to them waking us (and therefor the baby) up. The next thing I knew Scott opened the bedroom door and said "you have to come help." I didn't even know what to think, but i'll tell you I would have never guessed what came next.

I walked outside the bedroom and immediately noticed water on the carpeting. By 'water' I don't mean a thin layer of water, I mean about four to six inches of water just flooding the entire basement and all of our belongings (that are here at the house). We moved quickly, but managed to get everything up off the floor in time. The only thing that was ruined was my vacuum cleaner.

To be honest I didn't want a new vacuum cleaner, and I still don't want a new vacuum cleaner even though I know it'll be covered by the insurance claim. I'll end up getting $200 for it though, and since I have a 20% Bed Bath & Beyond coupon i'll end up being able to pocket $40, which can go towards my area rug in the dining area.

It was a totally unexpected day on multiple levels, but the things I am most upset about are having to take a day off of work, and having to get a new vacuum cleaner. Yuck.

Anyway, so now that the apartment we were staying in downstairs is completely ruined we are staying upstairs with the whole family. Thank goodness this arrangement is only for another two weeks - I don't know how much more i'd be able to stomach! Honestly though, I don't think I am the only one feeling this way. I'm sure that my in-laws are also counting down the days, and are ready for all our stuff to be gone.

So all in all, just another day in paradise, but with only two weeks left I can't be in bad spirits!
