Tomorrow is a big day for us - we will officially be at the "50 days til we get the keys" mark! I was planning on starting the 'counting' posts at 50 days, but I figured that one extra wouldn't hurt anyone.
I'm going to start with things outside before working my way inside the house. So my #51 thing that I am looking forward to is - the retention pond.
We own approximately half of the retention pond. It's more like a retention basin, but to glamorize it a bit i'll call it a retention pond. It's a huge pond, which is the reason we only own half of it (the other half is technically in our neighbors yard). The pond doesn't have fish or any other livestock in it, and by the city's rules we can't put any in there, either.
At our last house we had a man-made pond - and after having a pond my husband said he wouldn't want a house without one, and I said I wouldn't want one ever again. I think the retention pond is the perfect compromise. He gets to have a pond, and I don't have to pay any money to keep it up. Instead we pay an association fee for people to maintain the "greens," which includes the ponds. Hooray! I also like the idea of having the pond for run-off reasons. Our backyard slopes downward towards the pond, therefor if we were to get heavy rain the water would run away from the house.
There aren't many reasons to be excited about the pond, which is why it is #51, but I do like how we can see it from all the windows in the back of the house. It makes the house feel like it's on a heavily wooded and private lot, which is exactly what I as looking for when we were "house-hunting."
I'm not sure if we're going to go by the house after work tonight since we have so much other stuff to get done, but if not tonight, then for sure i'll go tomorrow night. I love seeing progress, and hopefully by the end of this week i'll see some cabinetry. Hopefully!
